Back around the end of 2016, I had a sudden love for subtle tattoos and henna; and in particular, on women.
At the time when I drew and painted this piece, all I thought about was to make a woman beautiful with tattoos. I think it really suits this week’s theme challenge, specially with the purple haze around her.
I think to be able to freely express yourself is already a power you can have. In today’s society, people are pushed away for having tattoos. Some tattoo artists have their own rules where they do not ink anywhere above the chest and the forearm to fingers in fear that if this person wanted a job, the tattoo would ruin the first impression.
But here in these pieces, there are subtle tattoos of doves and butterflies. It’s up to you what you think this piece means. Looking at it now, it kind of makes me think about women who are suppressed in society but you never know where their wings may take them.
