We Always Want What We Don’t Have

Daily Prompt: Youth

My teacher said this phrase a lot whenever he was teaching :We always want what we don’t have.

If she had straight hair, she wants curly hair but if she had curly hair she wants straight hair.

If you were short you want to tall but if you were tall you want to be short…er.

If his eyes are brown, he want blue ones but if his eyes are blue, he wants brown ones.

If I was the prince and you the pauper, we have to switch.

These are just examples. But what I’m trying to get out here is that when we are young, we can’t wait to grow up and be independent. But when the time comes, we see that independence is a struggle so we grow sullen when we think about the past and when we were young. See? We always want what we don’t have.

If you keep thinking to be something you’re not, that impacts the current you. If you can’t wait to be an adult, you’re not living the moments of being a kid. If you keep wishing to be young again, not only do you isolate yourself by not accepting the reality, depression hits you.

So live with who you are and accept that, that time will surely come. Take your time.

So live with who you are and accept that, you can still make a difference. Continue life.
